Microsoft Office 2016 is a version of Microsoft Office, released on 22 September 2015. New features include saving files directly in the cloud, Insights, etc. A version for Mac was released 2 months earlier, on 9 July 2015. It was the first version of Microsoft Office to drop the traditional Service Pack update mechanism in favor of releasing updates in smaller chunks on a continual basis. It is officially compatible with Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 through Windows 11 v23H2 and Windows Server 2022.

As with earlier versions, an MSI version, as well as a C2R (Click-to-Run) version, are available. The MSI version is only available via volume licensing. It is the last version of Microsoft Office for Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 10 RTMv1803 and Windows Server 2016.

On all systems, the icons have been unified, featuring the similar icon set on Windows, macOS, the web version, as well as iOS and Android. However, on Apple devices, the icons have a slight color gradient instead of a solid color.
