Mac OS 8.6 is an update to Mac OS 8. This version adds support to the Mac OS nanokernel. It was released on 10 May 1999 as a free update, and is also the default operating system for the "Blue Box" emulation layer in Mac OS X Server 1.2, 1.2 v3, and Mac OS X Developer Preview 1.
