iPhone OS 2 (codenamed Big Bear) is the second version of iPhone OS that was released on 11 July 2008. It was first announced at the WWDC keynote on 9 June 2008. It is the first version of iOS to support the ability to download 3rd-party applications via the App Store.

App Store[edit | edit source]

The App Store has been added, which allows for 3rd party applications to be installed.

Camera and Photos[edit | edit source]

  • Photos can now be saved from Mail and Safari.
  • Photos taken in the Camera app are now geotagged.
  • The ability to take screenshots has been added.
  • SVG image support has been added.

The Calendar app now supports multiple calendars.

iPhone OS 2.2 adds support for Google Street View, as well as the ability to display the address of a dropped pin.

A scientific calculator mode has been added, which can be accessed by rotating the device into landscape mode.

Language and input[edit | edit source]

  • Added support for Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Polish, Dutch, Korean, Brazilian, and Portuguese languages.
  • iPhone OS 2.2 adds Emoji support.[1]

  • Wi-Fi can now be enabled while in Airplane Mode.
  • WPA2 and 802.1X support has been added.
