Windows XP build 2481 is a pre-RC1 build of Windows XP, which was released internally on 1 June 2001, and was released to testers five days later on 6 June.[1]

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • The Windows XP Tour is now fully complete and functional.
  • Introduced the Olive Green and Silver Luna theme colors under the names Homestead and Metallic respectively.
  • The boot and safe to shutdown screens were updated.
  • The sounds used in the final version are added and they're present, but by default, the older sounds used in Windows 2000 are played, but upon completing the OOBE however, the new startup sound would be played instead.
    • The sounds also have a higher bitrate than any other builds after 2481, making it the only available build to have the highest quality sounds.
  • The taskbar is now locked by default.
  • The boot screen has been updated to include the final rotating bars animation, replacing the fading "loading..." text that was used in previous builds.
  • MSN Messenger got renamed to Windows Messenger and updated to version 4.0. This version also introduced the .NET Passport.
