Windows Vista build 5744 is the official RC2 build of Windows Vista, released to beta testers on 2006-10-06. The name "RC2" is actually a misnomer. During the final stages of Vista's development, Microsoft encountered several hiccups that resulted in delays to the RTM. RC2 was released in order to instill confidence in reviewers and manufacturers; in other words, it was released to show Microsoft's progress. It was never intended to be released.
