Windows Embedded Standard 7 build 223 is the official Community Technology Preview 2 build of Windows Embedded Standard 7 (using its preliminary name of "Windows Embedded Standard 2011"), which was released on 23 November 2009[1].

We are happy to announce that as of today, the second Community Technology Preview (CTP2) of Windows Embedded Standard 2011 is available publicly for download. We know it is a busy time of the year for many of you, but we are getting closer to the end of our development cycle and need your assistance in previewing the product and providing feedback!

The Standard 2011 CTP2 is being provided as 4 download packages:

1. Windows Embedded Standard 2011 Toolkit
2. Windows Embedded Standard 2011 32bit Bootable IBW
3. Windows Embedded Standard 2011 64bit Bootable IBW
4. Windows Embedded Standard 2011 Documentation that includes release notes and updated documentation

There are many updates and bug fixes as well as some new features in this release:

- Footprint optimization for key scenarios
- New and updated templates in ICE including import and export of templates
- More intuitive package naming
- Static Dependency Analyzer (SDA)
- New Packages:
    - Anti-malware
    - DVD Maker
    - Parental Control
    - Backup/Restore
    - IMAPI
    - PhotoViewer
    - Fax and Scan
- Updated and more detailed product documentation
- Windows Embedded Standard 2011 Compatible Applications
    - Most applications that run on Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP will run on Windows Embedded Standard 2011. Templates now make it easy to ensure that all of your favorite and most important applications will run on Standard 2011. These templates allow an application developer to indicate which components should be included in the build in order to support their application.
