Windows 8 build 8172 is an unleaked build of Windows 8. On 21 December 2011, wyysoft, a member of the Chinese beta forum PCBeta, posted some screenshots of this build.[1]

This is the earliest known build to load the navigation (back, forward and menu) button resources from the active theme's msstyles, rather than from ExplorerFrame.dll. This build also removes the "shadow" effect formerly present behind these buttons, starting from Windows Vista, and uses a different function to create the buttons resulting in different transparency behaviour.
