Windows 8 build 7762 is a build of Windows 8. It was shared on 2 October 2024, along with build 7990. The build was released to graphics device manufacturers shortly after its compilation as a pre-staged ISO in the x86 and AMD64 architectures, as well as a partial private symbol set aimed at graphics debugging, with unstripped symbols included for the multiprocessor, no-PAE kernel, ntkrnlmp.exe, NTDLL.DLL, DirectX and DWM. At the same time as this build being released, a "Windows 8 Graphics Mini-DDK" (dated 11 June 2010, shortly before this build was compiled) was released to partners with header files and libraries for DirectX 10, 10.1, 11, and an early build of 11.1.

Due to its earliness, many areas still say "Windows 7" and the kernel version is still 6.1 (much like builds that predate 7867). Some apps in this build are signed by "Windows Central Build Account".

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Setup[edit | edit source]

The EULA of the Ultimate SKU has been changed to state the product name as "Windows 8" with an EULA ID of "Win8_M1". Other SKUs still use the Windows 7 Release Candidate EULA.

Branding[edit | edit source]

The default Harmony wallpaper was replaced by a blue-green gradient that advises Microsoft employees not to leak the build along with a disclaimer highlighting the legal consequences of sharing the builds outside of Microsoft, later changed to omit the asterisk and the disclaimer as the code for drawing the confidentiality warning onto the desktop was later implemented into the main Windows shell dynamic link library (shell32.dll) in build 7785.

WinRT core[edit | edit source]

This is the first fully available build (7758 is only available as a collection of several thousand loose files found on the Microsoft Symbol Server) to have the beginnings of the Windows 8 Windows Runtime implementation (in ole32.dll) - further details of what is available is located on that page.

DirectX 11.1[edit | edit source]

An early version of DirectX 11.1 is included in this build.
