Windows 2000 build 1989 is a Beta 3 build of Windows 2000.
Changes[edit | edit source]
- The
winver
banner was changed to be identical to the RTM, albeit without the blue bar located beneath it. It was later added in build 2068. - The Control Panel is now properly sorted from A-Z and now looks just like the RTM. This also means that shortcuts to folders are no longer placed before applets.
- The message shown when the graphical stage of setup is starting has been shortened from "Starting the Windows 2000 Setup Wizard..." to just "Please wait..."
- The design of the common controls in 16 colors has been reverted to what is seen before build 1946.
- This build removes Windows NT Diagnostics apart from its executable file,
WINMSD.EXE
, which turned into a stub and now redirects to System Information instead.
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
Installation[edit | edit source]
- Booting from the CD might result in a bugcheck.
- When upgrading from build 1983, an error might occur during the network setup. If this happens, restart the computer and go through the user information portion of setup again.
