NFO file[edit | edit source]

The following NFO file was included as part of the PWA release.[1]

NFO contents

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • Text-mode setup no longer detects the IDE drivers during this portion of setup, and it now contains an option to restore a destroyed disk.
  • The graphical stage of setup now appears closer to the final version.
  • The icon of Command Prompt has been changed from the MS-DOS logo to a window showing the prompt.
  • MSN has been updated to version 2.5 (which no longer functions as it tries to loads a webpage that has been taken down).
  • A "Beta 2" watermark can be seen as the desktop is loading, but the winnt.bmp and winnt256.bmp files are still labeled as "Beta 1".
  • NTLDR shows a list of the loaded drivers during startup, even without the /SOS kernel switch being applied.
  • The option to upgrade an existing program has been removed from the new Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet. It existed in earlier builds, but grayed out.
  • The "Scanners and Cameras" Control Panel applet received a new icon, which was used until build 1738.
  • Added the BAD_EXHANDLE (0xA7) bugcheck code.

Quirks[edit | edit source]

The Outlook Express desktop shortcut does not have the proper icon.
