Windows 11 build 25931.1000 is an Insider Preview build of Gallium, the 24H1 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel on 16 August 2023, along with its server counterpart.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
File Explorer[edit | edit source]
Several property fields (e.g., drive information, image dimensions, number of pages) have been re-added to the new Details pane. This change was previously implemented in build 23516.
Shell[edit | edit source]
The ability to label system apps under Start menu's All Apps section, initially implemented in build 23481, has been ported to this build.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
- The timebomb has been extended from 15 September 2023 to 15 September 2024.
- The Photos and People apps can be uninstalled manually.
- Starting from this build, NetBIOS/WINS/mailslot-based methods for domain controller discovery were disabled by default. This behavior can be manually reverted with the
BlockNetBIOSDiscovery
Group Policy setting. - DC locator will automatically download additional information about the child domains in trusting forests and use that information as part of the discovery algorithm.
- The boot environment now supports DEFLATE compression (type 7) in RtlDecompressBuffer, making use of an unidentified zlib version.
Bugfixes[edit | edit source]
- Fixed a major issue that was preventing users from connecting over SMB to a third-party storage device using guest (no username or password) credentials.
- Fixed the issue that was causing the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray on the taskbar to sometimes disappear.
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
- Adjusting screen brightness may not work on some laptops.
- The icons on the desktop may appear blank in certain cases. Refreshing the desktop would resolve this issue.
- Text on highlighted items in Microsoft Management Console and some of its snap-ins may have a yellow color.
