Windows 11 build 25357 is an Insider Preview build of Zinc, the 23H2 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel on 4 May 2023, along with its server counterpart and build 23451.

New features[edit | edit source]

Shell[edit | edit source]

The redesigned Sound output page in the Quick Settings with new volume mixer feature, initially introduced in build 25309, has been rolled out to all users.

Settings[edit | edit source]

The animated icons in the left navigation panel, initially implemented in build 25188, has been disabled.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

The ability to install Windows to the ReFS file system, initially introduced in build 25281, has been removed.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

  • The access keys in the XAML context menu may appear inconsistently if no button is pressed. Pressing a button will cause them to reappear.
  • Clicking on the Share command may bring up the Windows share sheet (non-OneDrive) when the file recommendations feature is enabled.

Settings[edit | edit source]

Certain languages shown on the Language & Region page may indicate speech recognition support but don't yet have support for live captions.

Live captions[edit | edit source]

Captioning performance may be degraded in non-English languages and missing out-of-language filtering in non-English (United States) languages.

Safe mode[edit | edit source]

  • Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the Capability Access Manager Service service not running.
  • Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer 0xc0000409.
