Windows 11 build 25201 is the twenty-fourth Insider Preview and the eighteenth available client build of Copper, the 23H1 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 14 September 2022.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Widgets[edit | edit source]
The following features have been introduced to a subset of users:
- The expanded view of the Widgets board, which is accessible via the new Expand/Collapse button in the top right corner of the board, next to the Add widgets button. This feature can be toggled on manually by enabling the

. - The support for signing in to the Game Pass widget using an Xbox account. Once signed-in, the widget will show the available Game Pass games as well as a list of the most recently played games.
File Explorer[edit | edit source]
- The default folders unpinned to the navigation pane will be re-pinned after upgrading to this build.
- Several cloud files have been added to search results from the Home page.
- The ability to populate full search results while typing, previously removed in Windows 10 build 18894, has been re-introduced. As part of this change, the default size of the search box has also been reduced. This feature is only available to a subset of users, but can be toggled on manually by enabling the

velocity ID.

- The redesigned Search box in the taskbar, initially introduced in build 25158, has been disabled by default. This feature can still be toggled on by enabling the

velocity ID with the variant number set to between1

. - The new wording on Start menu's search box, initially introduced in build 25197, has been rolled out to more users.
Settings[edit | edit source]
Several UI elements have been redesigned in order to align the design aesthetics of Windows 11:
- The "Rename your PC" dialog (available under the About page), which can be toggled on manually by enabling the

Task Manager[edit | edit source]
- The reliability of Task Manager has been improved.
- Several live kernel dump options have been added under the Settings page.
Bugfixes[edit | edit source]
General[edit | edit source]
- Fixed the issue causing a bugcheck when moving the mouse in certain games.
- Fixed an issue causing some users to unexpectedly get the message "It is not possible to connect to this network" when connecting to certain Wi-Fi networks recently, although the network was working with other devices.
- Fixed an issue which could lead to Windows Sandbox opening to just a black window on certain devices.

- Fixed an issue causing the apps in the taskbar overflow flyout to be in the incorrect order when using an Arabic or Hebrew display language.

to crash when dragging a snap group in Task View and then dropping it into another desktop. - Fixed an issue related to interacting with the desktops flyout in the taskbar which was causing periodic

crashes. - Fixed a DWM crash which could lead to a brief black screen when rotating a tablet.
- Fixed a rare issue which could cause a DWM crash when watching videos in certain UWP apps.

- Fixed an issue which was causing sporadic Settings app crashes.
- An erroneous white pixel in the icon animation when clicking the Apps category has been removed.
Input[edit | edit source]
- Fixed an issue where if users hadn't already opened OneNote once, using the pen click to invoke OneNote wouldn't work.
- Addressed an issue where it wasn't possible to use the Pinyin IME to type in the chat box of certain games.
Widgets[edit | edit source]
Fixed the issue where in some cases, the Notification banner for some badging would not appear in the Widgets board.
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
General[edit | edit source]
- The audio may stop working in certain cases.
- Several apps may crash on launch in certain cases.
- The OneDrive setup may appear to ask for permission to set up every time Windows reboots.
- Disabling
OneDriveSetup.exe
from opening at startup may resolve this issue.

Tablet-optimized taskbar[edit | edit source]
- The taskbar may sometimes flash when transitioning between desktop posture and tablet posture.
- The taskbar may take longer than expected to transition to the touch-optimized version when switching between desktop posture and tablet posture.
- Using the left or right edge gestures may cause the Widgets or Notification Center (respectively) to overlap with or look truncated by the taskbar.
- The taskbar may sometimes stay stuck in the expanded state instead of dismissing to collapsed state when using the bottom right edge gesture to see Quick Settings.
- The taskbar may sometimes collapse unexpectedly when there are no running windows on the desktop.
File Explorer[edit | edit source]
The command bar items, such as copy, paste, and empty recycle bin, may unexpectedly not be enabled.
Settings[edit | edit source]
Users may be unable to uninstall certain apps under the Installed apps page.
Shell[edit | edit source]
On some locales, the default font used in several UI elements (such as the date and time on the taskbar) may change to regular Segoe UI instead of Segoe UI Variable.
Virtualization[edit | edit source]
- Users may experience a
UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR
bugcheck when booting Windows in VMware on a Hyper-V enabled host with 2 or more cores allocated. - The system may fail to boot in VMware with attached network adapters.
Widgets[edit | edit source]
- The Notification badge number may appear misaligned on the taskbar.
- In right-to-left display languages, the content may animate out of view before the Widgets board resizes when clicking to expanded view of the Widgets board.
- If the Widgets expanded view feature is enabled by toggling velocity ID, it may be disabled and fail to re-enable after rebooting in certain cases.
Safe mode[edit | edit source]
- Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the
Capability Access Manager Service
service not running. - Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer
