Windows 11 build 25179 is the nineteenth Insider Preview and the thirteenth available client build of Copper, the 23H1 development semester of Windows as a service. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel on 10 August 2022, along with its server counterpart.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

  • The tabbed browsing feature in File Explorer, which re-introduced in build 25136, has been rolled out to all users.
  • The updated layout of the left navigation pane, which introduced in build 25136, has been rolled out to all users.
  • The search results page has been updated.
  • An icon has been added next to the Mount option in the right-click menu for certain disc image files.

Settings[edit | edit source]

  • The spelling dictionary has been updated to use a language-neutral word list that will sync across all devices.
    • This feature can be toggled via Accounts > Windows backup > Remember my preferences > Language preferences.
  • Starting with this build, user's preferred state for the Suggested Actions setting under the Clipboard page will persist upgrade going forward.
  • The alignment of the "Scan for phone" button displayed in the Sign-In Options page under Dynamic Lock when the phone failed to connect has been improved.

Boot environment[edit | edit source]

A new function HviGetPartitionIsolationType was added. This gets some data from currently undocumented Hyper-V specific CPUID calls, and if the running system isn't a Hyper-V VM, or this new feature isn't present, returns zero. If this function returns non-zero:

  • ExFAT, CDFS and UDF filesystems, and PXE servers, are inaccessible during boot.
  • The legacy boot-time revocation list, boot.stl, is not loaded from disk (but is loaded from UEFI variable if present).
  • Boot-time fonts aren't loaded.
  • The VMBus driver uses a different EFI boot services protocol.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

  • The Tamil Anjal keyboard for the Tamil language has been added.
    • This feature is only available to a subset of users.
  • The key repeat rate for the traditional and touch keyboard layout as well as the default touch keyboard layout has been changed to 20 keys per second.
  • The default duration captured by powercfg -sleepstudy has been changed from 3 to 7 days.
  • The reliability of media controls in Quick Settings has been improved to not load old media that is no longer in use.
  • The date/time recognition for existing supported locales when using Suggested Actions has been improved.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue causing hangs and crashes in apps (like Excel) when attempting to print.
  • Fixed a few issues impacting explorer.exe reliability.
  • Fixed an issue causing one of the characters in the bugcheck text to not display correctly (as a box) when the display language was set to Chinese.
  • Fixed an issue causing app install failures with the 0x80080204 error.

Widgets[edit | edit source]

Fixed the issue causing Widgets preferences (temperature units and pinned widgets) to unexpectedly get reset to default.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue where the min / max / close button might not be visible in File Explorer when using a contrast theme.
  • Fixed an issue where when resizing certain app windows near the edge of the screen when using mixed DPI monitors might unexpectedly cause the window to jump and shrink.

Input[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed a sporadic crash impacting reliability of the input switcher.
  • Fixed an issue where when Suggested Actions was enabled, if users copied multiple items in a row to the clipboard history, some of the items might not display after ⊞ Win+V is pressed.

Settings[edit | edit source]

Fixed an issue which was causing Settings to crash on launch sometimes.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Certain devices with low disk space may be unable to update to this build with the 0x80070001 error in Windows Update.
    • Freeing up 24 GB disk space or higher may solve this issue.
  • Certain devices with Xbox Dev Kit installed may experience repeated explorer.exe crashes after attempting to access certain folders on Windows.
  • Some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause the device to bugcheck.
  • The audio may stop working in certain cases.
  • Several apps may crash on launch in certain cases.
  • Users may experience decrease in FPS when playing certain games due to the wrong graphics card being used.

Virtualization[edit | edit source]

  • Users may experience a UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR bugcheck when booting Windows in VMware Workstation 16 on a Hyper-V enabled host with 2 or more cores allocated.
  • The system may fail to boot in VMware with attached network adapters.

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

  • The Up button next to the address bar may be misaligned with other buttons.
  • The left-half of the title bar may not be draggable via mouse or touch.
  • The Home, Documents, Pictures and other folders may duplicate in the navigation pane or appear on the desktop.
  • The color of the search box background may be the opposite color of the current color mode.
  • The Delete key may not work on files.

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • The taskbar may not be able to display if File Explorer is maximized and the taskbar is set to auto-hide.
  • On some locales, the default font used in several UI elements (such as the date and time on the taskbar) may change to regular Segoe UI instead of Segoe UI Variable.

Widgets[edit | edit source]

  • The Notification badge number may appear misaligned on the taskbar.
  • The Notification banner for some badging may not appear in the Widgets board in some cases.

Print[edit | edit source]

The lines may not be included when printing tables from certain apps.

Safe mode[edit | edit source]

  • Quick Settings and date/time clock on the taskbar may be missing due to the Capability Access Manager Service service not running.
  • Clicking Bluetooth & devices and Personalization pages may crash the Settings app due to an overrun of a stack-based buffer 0xc0000409.
