Windows 11 build 22635.4000 is a build of Windows 11 2023 Update. It was released to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on 26 July 2024.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Taskbar[edit | edit source]

  • The ability to show hover cards for inactive and pinned apps on the taskbar, previously introduced in build 22635.3930, has been gradually rolled out. It can be activated manually by enabling the 48980211 velocity staging key.
  • The change to the system tray that hides the notification bell icon if the date/time clock is enabled, previously introduced in build 22635.3930, has been gradually rolled out. It can be activated manually by enabling the 46874415 and 48433719 velocity staging keys.

Widgets[edit | edit source]

The Widgets board has been redesigned using the WinUI 3 framework. It's gradually rolled out to users in the European Economic Area (EEA). To activate it manually, update the Windows Web Experience Pack to version 524.20502.0.0 (or later), and then enable the 47557358, 48433719 and 49686193 velocity staging keys and the "Third party feed is shown in Widgets" policy under %SystemRoot%\System32\IntegratedServicesRegionPolicySet.json. As part of this change:

  • A new "Custom Feed" section has been added for showing custom, third-party feeds that are comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the EEA.
  • Majority of existing widgets (including Microsoft Start) have been removed to avoid compatibility issues.
  • The Microsoft Start Experiences app will be used in conjunction with Widgets for upcoming Microsoft Start widget and feed experiences.

File Explorer[edit | edit source]

The New Folder option in the legacy context menu when right-clicking locations in the navigation pane has been ported to the modern context menu. It's disabled by default, but can be activated manually by enabling the 48433719, 50235585 and 52081114 velocity staging keys.

Settings[edit | edit source]

The change that moves options for toggling abbreviated date/time and clock with seconds in the system tray to the "Show time and date in the System tray" section under Time & language > Date & time, previously introduced in build 22635.3930, has been gradually rolled out. It can be activated manually by enabling the 46874415 and 48433719 velocity staging keys.

Accessibility[edit | edit source]

The spelling and corrections experience in voice access have been updated to dictate the characters at a faster speed and offer more editing flexibility.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an underlying issue that was causing the Notification Center to get stuck in certain cases.
  • Fixed an underlying issue that was causing the "Add a Device" dialog to not show when trying to add Bluetooth devices in the Settings app.
  • Fixed some issues that were causing Narrator to not work as expected when navigating through the Recent, Favorites, and Shared tab items with the visual improvements to the Home page in File Explorer (previously introduced in build 22635.3930).
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the context menu in the Home or Gallery page in File Explorer to open in the wrong position when using Arabic or Hebrew display languages.
  • Fixed an issue that was impacting the ability to launch the touch keyboard, emoji panel, and IME candidate window reliably due to an underlying crash.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the placeholder "Continue from Phone" entry to show unexpectedly under the Start menu's All apps list.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

  • A couple of issues may cause an increase in explorer.exe crashes.
  • Switching to the kaomoji and symbols sections or selecting an emoji may cause the emoji panel to close unexpectedly.
  • The following issues are applicable if the visual improvements to the File Explorer's Home page (previously introduced in build 22635.3930) are enabled:
    • The shared files may not appear if there has been no interaction with that file.
    • Keyboard focus may be lost on selection of an unselected tab item.
