Windows 10 build 20170.1000 is the fourth Insider Preview build of Iron, the 21H1 development semester of Windows as a service. This build was released to all Insiders in the Dev Channel on 15 July 2020.

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • Various improvements to the Settings app. Its shell icon has been updated to match the Fluent Design style, as the executable still uses the previous one. In addition, the "Manage sound devices" page under System → Sound is now able to display which sound device is the default and to set another one.
  • The ability for Notepad windows to stay open across system updates and PC reboots was temporarily disabled while reliability improvements were made. It was brought back in build 20226.
  • An experimental implementation of Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 is enabled by default starting with this build.
  • Extended the timebomb from 31 July 2020 to 31 January 2021.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

  • There's a chance that the system may crash with a HYPERVISOR_ERROR BSOD.
  • Microsoft Store games protected with Easy Anti-Cheat may fail to launch.
  • You might see flashes of color during the tile animations on the Start menu.
  • The update process to this build has a chance of hanging for extended periods of time.

Availability[edit | edit source]

This build was not made available through Windows Update to computers with AMD processors due to a bug impacting their usability.
