Dr. Watson is a problem reporting and debugging tool of Microsoft Windows.
16-bit application[edit | edit source]
The 16-bit version started appearing in Windows 3.1 pre-releases as a background process, with build 034f being the earliest available build to include it. Whenever an application crashed, Dr. Watson creates a summary log with more detailed information. Initially using a pipe as it's icon, it changed to a detective in build 043e. It was also included in some pre-releases of Windows 95, though it was removed in build 81.
32-bit application[edit | edit source]
It's 32-bit counterpart was included starting with Windows NT 3.5 and was also known as Windows (NT/2000) Application Error Debugger (regarding to the Windows version being used). It was removed in Windows Vista build 5048, though the 16-bit application continued to exist. It's successor is Problem Reports and Solutions.
