Mac OS X Snow Leopard build 10A222 is an ADC (Apple Dev Center) developer preview build of Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It is the first build of the macOS series that is unable to boot completely on Macs with the PowerPC CPU architecture. While BootX is still included and the Mach kernel is PPC-compatible, components like the Finder and WindowServer are only Intel-compatible, and PPC kexts have been removed. PPC-compatible components would continue to be left over up through the RTM release.[1]

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • Rosetta is now listed as an optional installation in the installer.
  • Screenshots have a default name listed with a timestamp rather than "Picture 1".
  • There is now a mixture of Universal and Intel-only applications, though the vast majority of the Utilities are now Intel-only.

Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]

  • The installer cannot be launched from build 10A190. Setup must be invoked by booting into the install DVD to install the OS.
