iOS 18.1 build 22B5054e is the official Beta 5 and Public Beta 2 release of iOS 18.1, which was released to Apple developers on 23 September 2024, then to public beta testers on the next day.[1][2]

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Camera Control[edit | edit source]

Camera Control on the iPhone 16 series has been expanded upon, with it now being able to switch between the rear-facing and front-facing cameras.[3]

Apple Intelligence[edit | edit source]

  • The icon for Apple Intelligence now has a dark mode variant.[4]
  • A new toggle for displaying Writing Tools has been added to the toolbar in the Notes app.
  • In the Messages app, a new splash screen has been added to inform the user about Apple Intelligence features.
  • Patched the SparseRestore exploit, which previously enabled Apple Intelligence on unsupported devices.

Control Center[edit | edit source]

  • Dedicated Wi-Fi and VPN toggles have been added.[5]
  • An option to reset Control Center to its default layout has been added to the Settings app.
  • A Shortcut action for displaying the Control Center has been added.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

  • Drag and drop support for iPhone Mirroring on macOS Sequoia has been added.[6]
  • RCS messaging support has been expanded to several more carriers around the world.
  • The Lock Screen toggle for Quick Notes has been re-added after being removed in iOS 18.0 Beta 5.
  • In the "Display & Brightness" section of the Settings app, the icons for switching appearances and display zoom have been updated to feature the iOS 18 wallpaper.
  • The Watch app icon has been updated slightly.
