This is a visual guide that thoroughly details how the build tag/watermark is formatted within modern-day Windows NT builds, from Windows XP onward.
Build strings are commonly denoted by a major and minor NT version, followed by the build number and build revision/delta. The build string is complemented by the targeted CPU architecture and the originating source code branch (with an applicable username appended onto it if the build in question is a private build), followed by the start date generated by the timebuild script (aka: the compile date).
Internal builds of Microsoft Windows (from Windows 8 through early builds of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update) additionally have a Windows Fingerprinting Service EULA hash which is displayed on the watermark; this is independent of the actual build string and is merely there to serve as a leak prevention measure.
