Windows XP build 2517 is a pre-RC2 build of Windows XP.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Windows Setup[edit | edit source]
Setup has been nearly finalized and now looks almost completely identical to the final release.
Any reference to "XP" in the startup of the text-mode part of Setup was removed, with both the title and the Starting Windows text now simply reading just "Windows".
The Product Key section of the GUI setup has had its image updated to a product key sticker. The example key on the sticker uses the letter z instead of alternating between 1 and A.
Setup now also uses Arial instead of Tahoma. This is very likely a mistake, as build 2525 has the original font reinstated.
Upgrade setup[edit | edit source]
The Windows boot screen is now present after the first restart of the upgrade setup, however it has the XP text removed and the three loading bars gray.
Out-of-box experience[edit | edit source]
The "Version 2002" string present on the pre-OOBE screen was replaced with the Microsoft Corporation text. The last sentence of the OOBE has also been modified to no longer include a reference to the Accessories folder.
User interface[edit | edit source]
The "OneStop", "Town", "Flourish" and "Drumkit Test" sample music files were removed, leaving only Beethoven's Symphony No.9 and New Stories sample files.
The placeholder Guest profile picture was removed and replaced with the version used in the final release, which depicts a picture of a briefcase.
