Windows Vista build 5480 is a pre-RC1 build of Windows Vista. Footage of this build (recorded by then-CEO Steve Ballmer) is included as part of a patent filing for the animated Windows orb animation shown in the logon screen, submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on 4 January 2007.[1]
It is the earliest known build to use the finalized orb animation on startup along with its matching sound. The logon sound, however, is of a different rendition that features a unique, cheerful tone. The transition animation from the login screen to the desktop is noticeably slower compared to later builds. It is the last known build to have Beta 2 branding on the desktop watermark. It is unknown if new sounds were actually a part of this build.
