Windows Server 2008 build 5112 is the official Beta 1 build of Windows Server 2008, which was released to beta testers on 27 July 2005[1] via the Windows Vista Technical Beta Program along with its client counterpart.
This build reuses the winver
banner found in Windows Server 2003 builds 3590 to 3663 from pre-reset builds, and it is the last available build to use such banner.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Server Core[edit | edit source]
This is the earliest available build to introduce the Server Core edition, a largely stripped-down version of the Windows operating system containing a minimal command line-based environment largely suited for remote management on headless server systems.
Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]
- This is the first available build of Windows Server to require ACPI support, as it is required by the new boot loader and trying to start the build on a non-compliant system results in an error.
- The copyright date of
winver.exe
has been updated from 2003 to 2005. - This is the first build to introduce LogonUI to the Windows Server line.
Windows Media Player 10[edit | edit source]
Windows Media Player has been updated from 9 Series to 10.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
Installation[edit | edit source]
Although this build can partition as intended during setup, the partitioning page doesn't refresh properly, requiring the user to reboot the system in order to see the new partition. This bug persists until build 5356.
