Japanese version[edit | edit source]

The Japanese version of this build containing the x86 (IBM PC/AT and NEC PC-98), DEC Alpha, and MIPS architectures was included with the December 1994 issue of Windows World magazine (as "Daytona Trial Program")[3] and was dumped by ReflectiaX on 20 December 2020.[4]

The CD text claims that this version of the build expires on 31 January 1995, but when the build is installed past the aforementioned date, a message will appear to ask the user to obtain a retail copy of Windows NT 3.5. Despite that, it is still usable.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

  • WINNT.BMP has been updated to show the Windows flag natively again. Also, the bitmap is now in landscape instead of portrait format.
  • The MPS 1.1 Multiprocessor PC HAL has been added.
  • Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) 2.0 support is introduced in this build.
  • Added Bulgarian, Croatian/Slovenian, and Romanian keyboard support.
  • Support for the AppleTalk network protocol has been added.
  • The Sound Blaster driver has been enhanced to add support for the Sound Blaster Pro and 16.
  • CLOCK.AVI is included as a test video file, which would be kept until its removal in Windows Vista.
  • The About dialog of winhlp32.exe has been replaced by ShellAbout. The copyright date has been updated as well, from 1990-1993 to 1985-1994.
  • The driver for the NCR 53c810 SCSI adapter (ncrc810.sys) has been enhanced with support for the 53c815, 53c820 and 53c825A models.
  • New bugcheck codes have been added.[5]
    • A kernel thread terminated while holding a mutex (0x4000008A, later renamed THREAD_TERMINATE_HELD_MUTEX)
      • This unusual STOP code value seems to likely be a result of a typo (likely from copy and pasting) resulting in the bugcheck being considered a message, akin to those present at the boot screen. As a result, most modern documentation lists STOP 0x8A as invalid, despite the intended value being the aforementioned STOP code.
    • This system may be infected with a virus. (0x8B, later renamed MBR_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH)

Setup[edit | edit source]

  • This build removes the file system warning for Windows NT 3.5 beta users seen in builds 612 and 683.
  • The disk examination during text-mode setup can now be skipped.
