Windows 2000 build 2128 is the official Release Candidate 2 build of Windows 2000, which was released by Microsoft on 15 September 1999[1] during the Developer Show DevDays '99 and leaked by Pirates With Attitudes on the same day.
An updated variant of this build's Professional and Server SKUs featuring several recompiled binaries (dubbed the RC2 Refresh) was shared on 5 December 2023 under the Italian localization.[2] The binaries in the refresh were compiled on 1 October 1999, approximately 21 days after the initial compile.

Changes[edit | edit source]
The Advanced Server SKU received its final lanmannt
and lanma256
bitmaps, replacing the ones from the NT era.
Timebomb[edit | edit source]
Like build 2072, the timebomb is not tied to a specific date, as this build is compiled in evaluation mode. Thus, this build can be installed on the current date and expires 444 days after initial installation. This continues all the way up to build 2190, just prior to the RTM.
64-bit compilers[edit | edit source]
The SDK for this build (also known as the October 1999 Platform SDK) contains the x86-to-IA-64 cross-compiler and Alpha-to-AXP64 cross compiler and linker mentioned in build 1877's SDK.
DEC Alpha build[edit | edit source]
The 32-bit DEC Alpha (AXP32) version of this build was never officially released, as Compaq discontinued support for Windows NT on the platform two weeks before the compilation of this build,[4] and Microsoft announced on the same day that there would not be future releases of Microsoft products for the Alpha platform starting with Windows 2000 RC2 (this build).[5] Despite that, Microsoft still compiled the AXP32 version, which eventually leaked onto the internet as a ZIP archive in late December 2000.[6]
Due to the low popularity of the leak, it was buried away for more than a decade, until an incomplete ISO with a truncated SETUP.EXE
was uploaded to BetaArchive in 2011. A full disc image with an intact SETUP.EXE
(likely dumped from a burnlab disc)[6][7] was released on 26 June 2023, alongside a reconstructed disc image of Windows XP build 2210.[8] Unlike the x86 compile, it was created on 23 September 1999, 13 days after the build was originally compiled.
