Windows 2000 build 1631 is a pre-beta build of Windows 2000. It is the last build to use the Windows NT 4.0 startup sound and to warn that the upgrade function has not been tested against Windows 95 OSR2 when upgrading from it.
Changes[edit | edit source]
- There is a new Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet, which - unlike the original one (
APPWIZ.CPL
) - is a wizard with options to add, remove and repair a program. There is also an option to upgrade a program, however it is grayed out. Both applets were removed towards the beta 2 in favor of a HTML-based one. - Microsoft Fax is no longer installed by default, along with its associated Control Panel applets being removed.
- Also removed from the Control Panel: SCSI Adapters, PC Card (PCMCIA), Server, Services, Tape Devices and Devices, while Dial-Up Monitor is new.
- Imaging has been updated to reflect the takeover of Wang by Kodak.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
