Windows 11 build 22623.891 is a build of Windows 11 2022 Update. It was released to a subset of Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel on 10 November 2022 as the KB5018863 enablement update to build 22621.891 (KB5020040) for new features included, which may not be enabled by default and instead be rolled out.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Shell[edit | edit source]

  • The new Show hidden icons flyout's animation has been updated to be consistent with other taskbar flyouts.
  • The Show hidden icons flyout background color has been updated to align with custom accent color if "Show accent color on Start and taskbar" is enabled under Personalization > Colors in the Settings app.

Input[edit | edit source]

The Emoji search for Japanese and Simplified Chinese has been improved to handle Kana/Kanji and Pinyin properly in the emoji panel.

Task Manager[edit | edit source]

  • The process filtering feature, previously introduced in build 22623.885, has been publicly rolled out.
  • The ability to use user preferred theme (configurable via the Settings page) has been added.
  • The in-app dialogs, except for "Run new task" and Properties dialog, have been updated to align with the design principles of Windows 11.
  • The ability to opt-out of the Efficiency mode's confirmation dialog has been added.

Miscellaneous[edit | edit source]

The .wcx suffix has been added to the list of Dangerous Extensions that some app control policies do not allow.

Bugfixes[edit | edit source]

  • Fixed an issue that was causing the taskbar to get stuck in the expanded state instead of dismissing to collapsed state when using the bottom right edge gesture to invoke Quick Settings.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the Do not disturb icon to disappear while in do not disturb mode.
  • Fixed multiple explorer.exe crashes impacting taskbar performance.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing File Explorer to fail to localize folders.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the CopyFile function to return error 317: ERROR_MR_MID_NOT_FOUND sometimes.
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing security audits for processes and other related audit events from creating.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing incorrect print output when printing in landscape mode in Microsoft Edge if Microsoft Defender Application Guard is enabled.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing Microsoft Defender failed to turn off passive mode when it was not the primary antivirus and when turning off Smart App Control.
  • Fixed an issue where using non-standard characters would stop the cleanup of the OOBE accounts.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing the Windows Firewall service to fail to start when turning on the Override block rules option.
  • Fixed an issue that was causing applications that run on the Windows Lock Down Policy to stop working.

The audio may stop working in certain cases.

Tablet-optimized taskbar[edit | edit source]

  • The taskbar may sometimes flash when transitioning between desktop posture and tablet posture.
  • The taskbar may take longer than expected to transition to the touch-optimized version when switching between desktop posture and tablet posture.

Task Manager[edit | edit source]

  • Filtering by publisher name may not match correctly on the Processes page.
  • Some services may not show in the Services page after filtering is applied.
  • If a new process is starting while a filter is set, then that process may appear for a split second in the filtered list.
  • The Delete key and tooltip may not work on the filter input box.
  • Some dialogs may not render in the correct theme when applied from the Settings page.
  • The data content area of the Processes page may flash once when theme changes are applied in the Settings page.
  • The Task Manager may not display light and dark content correctly with unreadable text when the "Choose your mode" option under Personalization > Colors in the Settings app is set to Custom.
