Windows 10 build 18855 is the fifth Insider Preview build of Windows 10 May 2020 Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders that were opted into Skip Ahead on 13 March 2019.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

  • The timebomb was extended from 5 July 2019 to 31 July 2020.
  • Notepad now automatically restores unsaved content when the operating system restarts for updates.
  • Made some improvements to Windows Sandbox, such as enabling microphone support, the ability to configure the audio input device via the app's config file, enabling the ⇧ Shift+Alt+PrtScn, keyboard shortcut to open the Ease of Access dialog for enabling high contrast mode, and a new keyboard shortcut to enter and exit fullscreen mode, which is Ctrl+Alt+Break, as well as including some bug fixes.
  • Disabled the “Change how capitalized text is read” feature in Narrator due to a reading reliability issue.
  • General changes, improvements, and bug fixes listed in the official release announcement.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

  • Opening games that use anti-cheat software will trigger a green screen of death.
  • While the bug that was causing the built-in night light to not work correctly was fixed in May 2019 Update build 18323, bugs still persist with other blue light reduction software not working.
  • When using Reset this PC and Keep my files is selected on a device that has Reserved Storage enabled, the user needs to initiate an extra reboot to ensure Reserved Storage is properly working again.
  • Some Realtek SD card readers do not function correctly with this build.
  • Creative X-Fi sound cards do not function properly on this build.
  • If you use VMware, you won't be able to update to this build from a previous one. It can still be clean installed however.
