Windows 10 build 18312.1001 is the eighteenth Insider Preview build of Windows 10 May 2019 Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 9 January 2019.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
- Changed the appearance of the Cortana page in the OOBE.
- Made some changes regarding how the operating system manages disk space. Windows now reserves some disk space for updates, apps, temporary files, and system caches.
- Increased the per-process FLS slot allocation ceiling. This change affects apps that dynamically load hundreds or thousands of unique DLLs that have statically-linked Visual C++ runtimes, or those that otherwise allocate FLS slots.
- Introduced a new UI for the Reset this PC function. It is now more consistent across devices with different configurations and it requires fewer clicks to complete.
- Updated the
wsl
command-line tool to include options to manage the WSL distros present in thewslconfig
command line tool. - You can now import a WSL distro for easier side-loading, including placing it to a non-system drive by using the
–import
command, as well as exporting them by using the-export
command to import them to a.tar
file as a new distribution. It will be placed in the user's default download folder.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
- The Windows Security app may show an unknown status for the Virus & threat protection area, and sometimes it may not refresh properly.
- Opening games that use anti-cheat software will trigger a green screen of death.
- Sometimes clicking your account in Cortana permissions won't bring up the UI to sign out from Cortana (if you were already signed in).
- Creative X-Fi sound cards do not function properly on this build.
- Some S-mode devices will attempt to update this build, it will download and restart, but the installation of this build will fail.
- Night light functionality does not work correctly due to a bug.
- When you open the Action Center, the quick actions have a chance of disappearing.
- Clicking the network icon on the login and Ctrl+Alt+Del screens will not work.
- Some of the text in the Windows Security app may not be correct or be missing. This can impact the use of some features, such as filtering Protection history.
- Updating to this build may fail, but it will show up as a successful update in the Windows Update history page. If this happens, there will be more than one entries for the successful install for the same update in the history page.
- Users may see a warning that their USB is currently in use when trying to eject it using File Explorer. To avoid this warning, close down all open File Explorer windows and eject the USB media using the system tray by clicking on ‘Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media’ and then ejecting the drive from the menu that pops up.
- When using Reset this PC and Keep my files is selected on a device that has Reserved Storage enabled, the user will need to initiate an extra reboot to ensure Reserved Storage is properly working again.
- There was a bug impacting a small number of users that were enrolled in Microsoft Intune where they may not receive policies. Those policies are not applied and left in a “pending“ state on the server. The workaround is to go to Settings/Accounts/Access work or school and "Disconnect" the Azure AD account and then re-enroll.
- Windows Sandbox does not load on PCs with multiple GPUs on this build.
- In some cases, launching Centennial apps will cause a green screen error in
bindflt.sys
. - Some Realtek SD card readers do not function correctly with this build.
