Windows 10 build 17749 (rs5_release) is a build of Windows 10 October 2018 Update. This build is only available as a base image for its Desktop App Converter, which was released on 5 September 2018.

Changes[edit | edit source]

  • The timebomb has been removed from the product policies. The build itself, however, is signed by a pre-production flight-signing certificate, which expires on 14 December 2018.

Installation[edit | edit source]

  • Use dism.exe to directly apply the base image (usually in .WIM format) to a hypervisor with a pre-configured disk.
  • Apply the following entries to the registry hives before starting the machine:

  • Create a new account, or activate and reset the password of built-in Administrator account via Local User and Group Management (lusrmgr.msc) in Safe mode.
  • Several critical system services are disabled by default in this build. To restore Windows to a working state, execute the following commands in Windows PowerShell (running with elevated privileges) and restart the machine:
