The Windows 1.0 Science et Vie Micro build is a pre-release build of Windows 1.0 shown in several issues of the French magazine Science et Vie Micro throughout 1985. A total of four photos were published in three issues.[1][2][3][4]
Visually it appears very similar to the Alpha Release, but features two new applications, namely Cardfile and Windows Plan. The latter looks like a straight port of Multiplan for Macintosh, which was ultimately never released, though an identical looking application called Spreadsheet is again seen in the Application Style Guide of version 1.03 SDK documentation.[5] Clipboard, MS-DOS Executive, Clock, Calculator, Sample Font Application and Cube can also be seen. Calculator has not been redesigned yet, while Paint features a somewhat different toolbar than in the Beta, but is otherwise the same as in the Alpha. Clipboard's executable, CLIP.EXE
, has not been renamed to CLIPBRD.EXE
yet and still has a menu bar.
The source code of the Cardfile application is included in the software development kit for version 1.01 and later. Its icon file, CARDFILE.ICO
, is dated 1 April 1985, suggesting that Cardfile may have been developed around that time (or at the very least, its icon was last changed on that date).
