Please stop replacing my uploads because you call them unclean.

Mine are clean and legit, even if they have modded drivers (they are still drivers), and it's like telling someone who's using the S3 Trio64 on win3.1 to stop using its drivers and use the standard VGA drivers instead. SA1988 (talk) 21:54, 25 October 2018 (BST)

Windows 1.x screenshots

Hello and welcome to BetaWiki.

I have noticed that you are in the process of replacing CGA screenshots of Windows 1.0 DR5 with HGC ones. While I appreciate your effort, I believe it would be nicer to upload these as new files and then add them alongside the old CGA screenshots to the article's gallery, because the old screenshots do not break any guidelines and they are just as good, even though the CGA has a much lower resolution than the Hercules.

Regarding SA1998's screenshots showing Windows 1.0 Beta with a patched EGA driver, using such drivers certainly isn't forbidden by the Guidelines. In general, screenshots should be as neutral as possible and the screenshot in question is a great example of that.

A couple of notes regarding your screenshots

1. You seem to be converting 16-color VGA screenshots to a "proper palette." The VGA 640x480 mode supports 16 simultaneous colors chosen from a much larger palette (262,144 colors in total), therefore there is absolutely nothing "improper" or wrong with their palletes. Considering that all these screenshots have been taken from emulators, it's more than likely that it would have looked exactly the same on real hardware. In general, the emulator output should be used instead of the source files (if any), since that is closer to, if not the exact same as what most people ended up seeing in the end.
2. Please consider taking screenshots of clean install VMs. A desktop screenshot with applications that haven't come with the operating system doesn't look as authentic as a similar screenshot of a clean copy. Also, you appear to be registering your VMs with "YouTube" as the company name, which may look like an advertisement. Lastly, please note that 1024x600 is below the minimum resolution of 1024x768 on operating systems that support it.

No, I never said that you can't use your existing VMs for your personal needs, but screenshots of such VMs are not appropriate for this site. BetaWiki is not a desktop screenshot contest. I can change the "registered to" in Windows 9x/NT VMs with a registry edit, but in x86-16 Windows it seems to be hardcoded into the system files, so it needs hexediting. MarioMario456 (talk) 16:27, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

So I don't need to mount updates and stuff I want onto my host. For example, the unofficial Windows 98SE SP3.64 (it includes all the official updates and additional tools (optional), since the Windows Update v4 website used to install updates in Windows 98/ME website was shut down in 2010).
