Depending on the installation media type for the version you are installing, you may need to invert the floppy drive types to work best for the floppy disk type of the installation media (5.25" 360 KB drive as first floppy drive (A:), 3.5" 720 KB drive as second floppy drive (B:)), and you may have to use SYS C:, then copy every file on the floppy (or just COMMAND.COM) to the C:\ drive after formatting the hard drive instead of using the /s switch on FORMAT.COM.

To set up the BIOS you must require a Diagnostics disk for a Compaq Portable.
