Alto Executive, is an operating system designed for the Xerox Alto. The operating system is the first operating system with a GUI. It's GUI concepts later inspired Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS.

While the Alto popularized the concept, the main core system retains the command line interface where the user launch programs, such as Smalltalk-80 (like Windows prior to Windows 95).

The system is demonstrated by Steve Jobs, who went to work with the Apple Lisa, and later the Macintosh, which popularized the concept of GUIs.
