Ubuntu 16.04 is the fifth Long Term Support release of Ubuntu that released on 21 April 2016 under the codename of "Xenial Xerus". This is the last LTS version to use Unity as the default desktop environment, as it has been replaced with GNOME in Ubuntu 18.04.
