Shell Technology Preview build 1057 (also known as Shell Technology Preview Update or NewShell 2) is a replacement shell provided by Microsoft for testing and debugging Windows 95-compliant applications in Windows NT. The end result is an early version of the Windows NT 4.0 shell and user interface, complete with icons and some feature additions. It was made available to MSDN users and well as on CompuServe/Microsoft's website.
Installation[edit | edit source]
Shell Technology Preview can be installed on any version of Windows NT 3.51, but Briefcase support requires Service Pack 5 to be installed. Updating Windows NT (via Service Packs) requires uninstalling NewShell.
