Mac OS 8.5.1 is an update to Mac OS 8, which was released on 7 December 1998 as a free update. It is also the default operating system for the "Blue Box" emulation layer in Mac OS X Server 1.0. This version was shipped with the initial Revision 1 "Blue and White" Power Macintosh G3 units.
