Lubuntu is a variant of Ubuntu that uses the LXQt desktop environment instead of Ubuntu's GNOME. It is considered to use fewer resources and be more lightweight than other Linux distributions. Therefore, it is popular to run on older PCs and netbooks which may not have as much power.
Lubuntu originally used the LXDE desktop environment, however it was replaced by LXQt in version 18.10.
