System requirements[edit | edit source]

Hardware[edit | edit source]

  • CPU: Intel 80286 or higher (However EMM386.EXE cannot be used on 80286)
  • Memory: At least 2 MB
  • HDD: At least 2.5 MB free space
  • FDD: One 3.5 inch (1.44 MB) FDD
  • Keyboard: IBM 5576-A01/B01/001/002/003 or US 101 Keyboard

Software[edit | edit source]

  • IBM DOS J4.0/V or higher version must already be installed on computer.

Installation[edit | edit source]

  • Power on and boot to DOS already installed.
  • Insert floppy DISK 2 into FDD A: (Must be A:, since it was hard-coded in alpha.bat mentioned below).
  • Change current directory to A: and run alpha.bat. The bat will automaticly copy all contents of DISK 2 to C:\Alpha.
  • Insert floppy DISK 1 into FDD A: and reboot. DISK 1 must be write-enabled.

Note[edit | edit source]

Use US 101 Keyboard Layout[edit | edit source]

The system uses Japanese keyboard layout by default. To use the English keyboard layout, in DISK 1:

  • Find the line in CONFIG.SYS that says DEVICEHIGH=A:\DOS\$IAS.SYS /R=1, add /K=US to the end.
  • Find the line in AUTOEXEC.BAT that says LH KEYB.COM JP,932,A:\DOS\KEYBOARD.SYS, delete it or add REM at the beginning.

Then reboot.
