GhostBSD is a FreeBSD-based operating system created in March 2010. The goal of the project is to make FreeBSD easier to use, incorporating a desktop environment with a graphical package manager. It uses fish as its default shell.

In 2018, starting with GhostBSD 18.10, GhostBSD moved its base from FreeBSD to TrueOS. The project shifted its base back to FreeBSD in version 21.04.27 (released 29 April 2021), making 21.01.20 (released 23 January 2021) the last version to use TrueOS as its base.
