Windows Server 2019 build 17733 is the tenth Insider Preview build of Windows Server 2019. It was released on 14 August 2018.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

  • Made it easier to deploy Software Defined Networking (SDN) by adding a new UI to deploy it, as well as adding a new Windows Admin Center extension to customize said component.
  • Improved the placement of virtual machines in a Cluster Set.
  • Added a new switch for the FailoverClusters family of cmdlets called –ManagementPointNetworkType that can be used with New-Cluster. The options of this switch include Singleton, which uses the traditional method of DHCP or static IP address, Distributed, which uses a Distributed Network Name using node IP addresses, and Automatic, which uses automatic detection. An example command to create a cluster utilizing Node1 and Node2 on-premises, where DHCP provides IP addresses, and to have the CNO as a distributed name, the PowerShell command would be New-Cluster -Name Cluster -ManagementPointNetworkType Distributed -Node Node1,Node2. If Failover Cluster Manager is used to create the cluster, it will default to using Automatic for the network type.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

  • The system may crash with a SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED blue screen of death in the Virtual Hard Disk Miniport Driver (Vhdmp.sys).
  • Remote Desktop connections may fail when you launch Windows Defender Application Guard.
  • When a Windows Defender Application Guard container crashes, the resulting type of dump may be unexpected.
  • On a preview build of the operating system, Narrator is not available by default after installation. On an affected system, the audio service is also disabled by default.
  • Database applications might not be able to initialize a database and fail with either a stack overflow or insufficient privileges error when the database is located on an SMB volume.
  • Shielded VMs running Linux do not boot because the loader (LSVMLoad) waits for a passphrase for the boot partition.
  • In the Nano SKU, creating or modifying environment variables by using setx will fail. This is because setx requires the HKCU\Environment\ to be present by default. To fix this issue, change where this variable is stored in the registry, or add the expected registry path before you execute a setx command. To specify that the variable be set for system-wide use in HKLM rather than in HKCU, which is the default, add the /M switch to a setx command. To add the expected registry path, run reg add HKCU\Environment before executing a setx command.
