Windows NT 3.5 build 807 is the official RTM build of Windows NT 3.5, released on 21 September 1994.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
Processor check[edit | edit source]
Setup doesn't detect processors newer than the original Pentium, as well as some models of 386, 486, and Pentium processors. To bypass this, two INF files must be edited after the first stage (in text mode) of setup is done. Change the line STF_PROCESSOR = "" ? $(!LIBHANDLE) GetProcessor
to STF_PROCESSOR = $(ProcessorID_I586)
in INITIAL.INF
and SETUP.INF
files in the SYSTEM32
subdirectory of the target installation directory. If this is being done on a 386 processor use I386, and for 486 processor use I486 instead of I586.
OEM versions[edit | edit source]
The Compaq document "Migrating from Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server 3.1 to Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.5",[1] references a Compaq OEM version of the Server SKU, dated November 1994. According to page 15 (contrasted with page 28 referencing non-OEM media and Setup Boot disks), the Compaq OEM version is a bootable CD; if so, not only would it be one of the first bootable CDs, as the El Torito specification was released in November 1994 along with the first BIOSes supporting it[2] but it would also predate Microsoft's implementation of the same (in Windows NT 4.0) by over a year. In December 2021, a Compaq OEM version (dated February 1995) was dumped. It does not use the El Torito standard.
The PowerPC version of this build was released as IBM OEM media only; despite being based on the RTM build of Windows NT 3.5, it is most likely a beta of the PowerPC port as it has minimal hardware support: it only supports the PowerPC 601 processor, IBM Power Series 6015/6020/6030 systems and S3 864/928/964 graphics - txtsetup.sif
mentions support for Weitek P9000/P9100 graphics, but the relevant lines are commented out.
