Windows Me build 2447 is a Beta 2 Refresh build of Windows Me. It was first referenced on the SuperSite for Windows article "The Road to Gold: The development of Windows Me" article by Paul Thurrott, where it is stated that the build was initially released to testers on 14 January 2000.[1] The raw folder dump containing the build's installation media was later found by Overdoze on 31 August 2022, and uploaded onto the Internet Archive the next day.[2]
Changes[edit | edit source]
- This is the first known build to feature the color scheme from Windows 2000.
- The "Windows is shutting down..." screen no longer appears when shutting down the system.
- Reimplemented the safe to shutdown screen from previous Windows 9x releases.
- Updated the Startup Disk version string from
Windows 98 [Version 4.10.2222]
toWindows Millennium [Version 4.90.2447]
. From this point onwards, the startup disk will be updated to match the system version. - Updated MSN Messenger to version 2.1.
- Windows Movie Maker has a revamped interface with different timeline controls, removing the sidebar previously seen in build 2429.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
S3 drivers[edit | edit source]
When using S3 video adapters, Windows will complain that its own drivers will not work properly, thus the display will be stuck at 640×480 resolution and 16 colors mode. This error will also appear upon every boot and other drivers cannot be installed correctly, meaning that S3 video adapters are not recommended for this build.
Neptune reference[edit | edit source]
Two files named gemstar.sys
and wstdecod.dll
, with the version number 5.50.5116.1 were found in this Millennium build, but it is unknown whether this Neptune build was ever compiled.
Some speculate this would've been a Milestone 2 build.
