Windows 98 build 2017 is an alpha build of Windows 98 Service Pack 1, calling itself the Multimedia Update (or "Multimedia Update 1" in the license). This build was uploaded by community member TC1995 on 15 December 2019, who in turn had received it from another community member Term24 in roughly 2015.
It includes an HTML-based Internet Connection Wizard, a beta version of IE 4.01 SP2, Windows Media Player 5.2, DirectX 6.0 and various other updates.
Notes[edit | edit source]
The main update files for this build are stored in SP1.cab
, and there are updated versions of ActiveMovie and Windows Media Player components outside this package, which are presumed to be components of the official "Multimedia Update" version. It should be noted that the update process of this patch will not be able to read the files in the SP1.cab
package when calling the sub-INF, resulting in the problem that other components are not updated at all except ActiveMovie and Windows Media Player after installation. Therefore, regardless of whether the installation of the above two components is a new version or an old version, the contents of the SP1.cab
file needed to be decompressed in advance. If you need to install an older version, choose to overwrite the files outside the package when unpacking SP1.cab
.
