New features[edit | edit source]

Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 introduces Compatibility Mode, a useful feature which allows applications designed for older versions of Windows to work. It was backported from Windows XP pre-release builds. However, it is disabled by default. In order to enable it, the library needed for Compatibility Mode has to be registered. To do this, open the Command Prompt and type the command regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll. A dialog box should appear that the library has been registered successfully, then click OK. Next time you go to the properties of the program, it should have the "Compatibility" tab. Note that this feature is very limited. It can only run programs designed for Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5. The compatibility layer is stored in %SystemRoot%\System32\slayerui.dll.
