Windows 10 build 18272 (rs_prerelease) is the eleventh Insider Preview build of Windows 10 May 2019 Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 31 October 2018.
New features and changes[edit | edit source]
- Redesigned the Windows Hello section in the Sign-in options page in the Settings app.
- Added SwiftKey support for the following locales: English (Canada), English (India), French (Canada), French (Belgium), French (Switzerland), Portuguese (Portugal), German (Switzerland) and Spanish (United States). Text suggestions can also be enabled for the aforementioned languages as well. To enable it, toggle the option "Show text suggestions as I type" located in the Typing page, which is located in the Devices section in the Settings app.
- Added support for phonetic keyboards for the following Indic languages, the keyboards are for the Hindi, Bangla, Tamil, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Odia, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages. To enable them, open the Settings app, then navigate to the Time and language section, then go to the Language page. Once there, select the "+" icon labeled "Add a preferred language", then type the name of the desired Indic language into the search box and then select it. Click on the next button to install the language to the device. After downloading the necessary files required for the select language, select the language that was recently added, and then click on the Options button. This action will take you to the options of that language. Once there, select the "+" icon labeled "Add a keyboard". From there, enable the phonetic keyboard for the installed language, then after that task is done, select the input indicator icon on the system tray (or press ⊞ Win+Space) and select the phonetic keyboard for the Indic language that is installed.
- Narrator now alerts the user if they're accidentally typing with caps lock turned on by default. It can be configured by opening Narrator Settings by pressing Ctrl+⊞ Win+N, then navigate to the “Change how much content you hear” heading and then change the options under “Change when you receive Caps Lock warnings while typing”. It even works if the character echo option (“Hear characters as you type”) is disabled, and it works in edit fields and password fields as well. By default, Narrator alerts you regardless if you press the ⇧ Shift key as you type alphabetic characters, but it can be customized to only alert you if you press the ⇧ Shift key together with an alphabetic character, or it can be disabled altogether.
- Some Insiders at the time of this build's release had a feature where if they right-clicked on a group name or tile folder on the Start menu, they would have an option to unpin it.
- Using the "Ctrl + mouse wheel" scroll combination to zoom in text is now supported in Command Prompt, PowerShell and WSL.
- Scrollbars are now dark when using the dark theme in Command Prompt, PowerShell and WSL.
Bugs[edit | edit source]
- You cannot create more than two virtual desktops, because after creating one, the + button on the "New desktop" selection disappears.
- Sometimes the update status can cycle between Getting Things Ready, Downloading, and Installing. It is often accompanied by error 0x8024200d, which is caused by a failed express package download.
- If there's a large amount of OTF fonts present, or OTF fonts that support the extended East Asian character set, some text across the system may be unexpectedly missing. Opening the
C:\Windows\Fonts
folder should resolve this glitch. - PDF files opened in Microsoft Edge may not display correctly (e.g. small, instead of using the entire space)
- If the PC is set up to dual boot, you may encounter a blue screen of death.
- The Settings app will crash after changing your account's password, if you want to change your password, use the Ctrl+Alt+Del method to change the password.
- WSL does not work on this build.
- Some devices may encounter a GSOD when shutting down.
