Windows 10 build 17677 is the thirteenth Insider Preview build of Windows 10 October 2018 Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 24 May 2018.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

  • Redesigned the right-hand menu ("...") in Microsoft Edge. Highlights include the menu options being organized into groups, with icons for each entry, and keyboard shortcuts if usable.
  • You can now see your top sites in the Jump List on the taskbar or the Start menu. To access it, right-click the Microsoft Edge icon to see a list of most frequently visited websites. You can also pin those websites as well.
  • Added the ability to name a group of set-aside tabs in Microsoft Edge.
  • Added two options to the download pane, these are "Show in folder" and "Copy link".
  • Narrator's scan mode now supports selecting content in Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Mail and most text surfaces in various apps.
  • In Task Manager, the Processes tab does not include used by suspended UWP processes. This changes is to more accurately reflect the OS behavior in which it can reclaim memory used by suspended UWP processes if needed. This scenario means if there's several UWP processes suspended in the background, Windows can take back memory from these processes if needed and use it for some that's more memory-intensive.
  • The mobile broadband USB driver that's based on the Net Adapter framework introduced in build 17655 was made the default driver from this build onwards.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

General[edit | edit source]

  • Dark theme support is incomplete in File Explorer and the Common File Dialog.
  • If you use Remote Desktop, project the screen, or use multiple monitors, there's a chance of Explorer.exe hanging. Microsoft Edge can also hang in a similar fashion with this issue.
  • Sometimes the jump list is missing is missing pinned and recent items on certain apps.
  • After updating to this build, Mixed Reality Portal will reinstall the Mixed Reality Software, and as a result, the environment setting is not preserved.

Sets & Office[edit | edit source]

  • The top of some Win32 desktop apps may appear slightly underneath the tab bar when they're opened maximized. To fix this issue, restore and re-maximize the affected window.
  • Sometimes closing one tab can minimize the entire set.
  • Tiling and cascading windows do not work for inactive tabs.
  • Opening an Office document while the same app has an existing document open may cause an unintended switch to the last active document. It can also happen if you close a sheet in Excel while other sheets are open.
  • Locally stored files and cloud files that are on non-Microsoft cloud services are not automatically restored.
