Windows 10 build 15031 (rs2_release) is the twentieth officially released Insider Preview build of Windows 10 Creators Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 8 February 2017.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

Added support for compact overlay windows.
Introduced Dynamic Lock. This feature automatically locks the PC when you're not around based on the proximity of a Bluetooth-paired phone. If that Bluetooth-connected phone is not found anywhere near the PC, Windows turns off the screen and locks the PC after 30 seconds. To enable this feature, pair your phone to your PC via Bluetooth and go to Settings, then go to Accounts, and then navigate to Sign-in options and then toggle Dynamic lock to on.
Introduced a new share icon.
Game Bar now supports 52 new games, a list of which can be seen in the release announcement.
Updated the OOBE's appearance.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

Some machines may still experience constant crashes with the Spectrum.exe service, causing PCs to lose audio, disk I/O usage to become very high, and apps like Microsoft Edge to become unresponsive when doing certain actions. To fix this, stop the Spectrum service, navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Spectrum, delete the PersistedSpatialAnchors folder and reboot.
Navigating to the devices section in Settings will crash the Settings app.
You cannot launch the Connect UX via Action Center, ⊞ Win+K or Settings as it will crash upon launch.
Some games might minimize to the taskbar when launched.
Microsoft Edge F12 tools may intermittently crash, hang, and fail to accept inputs.
Microsoft Edge’s “Inspect Element” and “View Source” options don’t correctly launch the DOM Explorer and Debugger, respectively.
Under Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Update, you might see the text “Some Settings are managed by your organization” even though your PC isn’t being managed by an organization. This is a bug caused by an updated flight configuration setting for Insider Preview builds and does not mean your PC is being managed by anyone.
Sometimes the audio can randomly stop working with a "device in use" error. Restarting the audio service can temporarily fix the problem.
Action Center can randomly appear blank and transparent without color. If you encounter this, move the taskbar to a different location on the screen.
The icon for the Windows Insider Program under Settings -> Update & security is shown as a square instead of its usual icon.
Users of the JAWS screen reader may have difficulty using the Start menu, logging in to their PC, and using Outlook with this build while it is running.
