Windows 10 build 15007 is the sixteenth officially released Insider Preview build of Windows 10 Creators Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 12 January 2017.

New features and changes[edit | edit source]

  • Added the ability to share a set of tabs that you've set aside in Microsoft Edge.
  • You can import bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords and other data from another browser into Microsoft Edge.
  • You can "Run" a download link without first saving it, and a "Save As" option was added into the existing Save link.
  • Updated Web Notes to now integrate Windows Ink. Tap the pen or hightlighter to reveal the full set of Windows Ink colors, as well as the new slider that was officially released for Windows Ink in build 14986
  • Clicking links to sites that support web-to-app linking now opens that page in the intended app.
  • Added a non-functional Store icon in the themes Settings page.
  • Cortana now displays quick links to the most recently used documents or webpages you used.
  • Added inline progress bar support to notifications.
  • Improved the scrollbar for UWP apps. When you are panning over a region, it has a thin appearance, but when you hover your mouse to the scrollbar, the scrollbar expands to full size.
  • Improvements to Windows Hello's facial recognition. You will now see a visual guidance that tracks your face in real-time, shows you an improved progress indicator and gives you real-time feedback to quickly and smoothly set your face up for signing in.
  • You can now take a screen capture using only the keyboard.
  • The copyright year in winver was updated to 2017.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

  • After updating to this build, constant crashes with the Spectrum.exe service may occur causing PCs to lose audio, disk I/O usage to become very high, and apps like Microsoft Edge to become unresponsive when doing certain actions. To fix this, navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Spectrum, and delete the PersistedSpatialAnchors folder.
  • When clicking on certain elements in Win32 games, the game minimizes and cannot be restored.
  • Desktop shortcuts that contain a "%" (usually URI shortcuts with escaped characters) will cause Explorer.exe to constantly crash. To fix this, use Task Manager to open up PowerShell, and edit the shortcut to remove the "%" from the path.
  • If projecting to a second monitor, when the connection is set to Extended, Explorer.exe may start crashing in a loop. If this happens, shutdown the PC, disconnect the secondary monitor, and then restart the PC.
  • You can see a "Holographic" entry on the main page of the Settings app.
  • Brightness changes made via the Settings app will revert unexpectedly after closing the Settings app.
  • The list of apps in the Surface Dial's "Add an app" page via Settings -> Devices -> Wheel may unexpectedly be empty. If that happens, tap the “Browse for an app” button at the bottom of the screen to pick the desired app instead.
  • Quicken will fail to run with an error stating that the .NET Framework 4.6.1 is not installed. The workaround is to take ownership of the following keys and edit the "version" value to be 4.6.XXXXX instead of 4.7.XXXXX:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Client
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full
  • Taskbar preview icons are unusually small on high-DPI devices.
  • Using Ctrl+C to copy in Command Prompt won't work.
  • Certain sites in Microsoft Edge have a chance of unexpectedly showing “We can’t reach this page”. If this happens, browse the site from an InPrivate tab.
  • Dragging apps from the all apps list on the Start menu won't work. Right click to pin the desired app.
  • Miracast sessions will fail to connect.
  • If you upgrade from Windows 8.1 directly to this build, all of the Store apps are lost during the upgrade process.
  • When using Microsoft Edge with Narrator, you may hear "no item in view" or silence when navigating through tabs or using other navigation commands.
  • Hey Cortana, play (song) on (app name) doesn’t work immediately after installing the app. Wait five minutes for the indexer to activate and try again.
  • Under Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Update, you might see the text “Some Settings are managed by your organization” even though your PC isn’t being managed by an organization. This is a bug caused by an updated flight configuration setting for Insider Preview builds and does not mean your PC is being managed by anyone.
  • Some systems may crash with a GSOD caused by storport.sys during the installation of this build, causing it to rollback to the previous build.
  • Updating to this build can take an abnormally long amount of time, causing it to appear to be stuck at 99%.
  • Sometimes the audio can randomly stop working with a "device in use" error. Restarting the audio service can temporarily fix the problem.
