Unity is a desktop environment created and formerly maintained by Canonical Ltd. It is a graphical shell for Ubuntu and was created to make more efficient use of the limited screen space provided in netbooks. Although it was discontinued on 5 April 2017, it is still being maintained by its community. A continuation of it was available, called UnityX.
